PS5 Gets Days Gone Remastered: What’s New

"Days Gone" and the idea of a "Remastered" version for the PS5. This is a fun one to chat about!

Days Gone on PS5: What's the Deal? And Could a "Remastered" Version Ever Happen?

Alright, biker and zombie (or "Freaker," as they call them in the game) fans! Many of us who've ridden the broken roads of Oregon with Deacon St. John in "Days Gone" probably have a soft spot for the game. Now, if you're a PS5 owner, you might be wondering if there's a special "Days Gone Remastered" or what the best way to play it on the new console is.

First Things First: Can You Play Days Gone on PS5 Right Now?

Yes, you absolutely can! Thanks to the PS5's backwards compatibility, you can play the original PS4 version of Days Gone on your PS5. And guess what? It actually runs better on the PS5 even without a dedicated "remastered" label.

  • Smoother Action: One of the best things is that it often runs at a lovely 60 frames per second (FPS) on the PS5. This makes the game look and feel much smoother and more responsive than it did on the standard PS4. Turning the bike, aiming your crossbow, or trying to escape a massive Freaker horde just feels slicker.

  • Faster Loading: The PS5's super-quick SSD means loading times are generally much faster. You'll spend less time staring at loading screens and more time out in the beautiful, dangerous world.

So, even without a specific "PS5 Remastered" version, playing the PS4 Days Gone on your PS5 is already a pretty solid upgrade. It’s like giving the game a free performance boost.

What About an Actual "Days Gone Remastered" for PS5?

This is where things get a bit more like wishful thinking, at least for now. As of right now (and things can always change in the gaming world!), Sony hasn't officially announced a dedicated, built-from-the-ground-up "Days Gone Remastered" or "Days Gone Director's Cut" specifically for the PS5.

Why not? Well, a few reasons:

  • The Original Developers: Bend Studio, the team that made Days Gone, has reportedly moved on to working on a new game project. Making a full remaster takes a lot of time and resources.

  • Sales and Reception: While Days Gone sold pretty well and has a dedicated fanbase (many of us love it!), it didn't quite hit the mega-blockbuster sales numbers of some of Sony's other big games like Spider-Man or The Last of Us. This sometimes plays a part in which games get the full remaster treatment.

  • The Current PS5 Boost is Already Good: Because the game already runs so well on PS5 via backwards compatibility with the 60 FPS boost, Sony might feel it's "good enough" for now.

But What Could a "Days Gone Remastered" Look Like if it DID Happen?

Let's dream a little! If Bend Studio or another team did give Days Gone the full PS5 remaster treatment, here's what we might hope for:

  • Even Better Graphics: True 4K resolution, more detailed environments, better lighting, and maybe even fancier weather effects to make that Pacific Northwest setting even more atmospheric.

  • DualSense Controller Magic: Imagine feeling the rumble of Deacon's bike through the controller's haptics, the tension of his bowstring on the adaptive triggers, or even the struggle when a Freaker grabs you. That would be awesome!

  • More Content? This is a long shot, but a true "Director's Cut" might include things that were cut from the original game – new story missions, new areas to explore, or new Freaker types. (A fan can dream, right?)

  • Ray Tracing: This fancy lighting technology could make reflections and shadows look incredibly realistic.

So, Should You Wait for a Remaster?

Honestly, probably not. The current experience of playing Days Gone on the PS5 (the PS4 version with the performance boost) is already very, very good. It looks great and plays smoothly.

If you haven't played Days Gone yet and you have a PS5, definitely grab the PS4 version (it's often available at a good price or was part of the PS Plus Collection for a while). You'll get a fantastic open-world adventure with a gripping story, cool bike mechanics, and some of the most terrifying zombie hordes you've ever seen in a game.

While a dedicated "Days Gone Remastered" would be amazing, for now, the existing way to play it on PS5 is more than enough to enjoy Deacon's journey. Maybe one day Sony will surprise us! Until then, keep that bike fueled and watch out for those hordes!
